The Alchemists’ Mixing Directives

 

This could be the most controversy section for the most cocktailians! I can already say, that a lot of things will be more strict - a lot of cocktails are no more mixable after these directives. A Golden Dream, Long Island Iced Tea, a Bronx? Gone with the wind!

§ 1 In the pure opinionated alchemy, we are measuring in grams

  1. Products measured in dashes need a dash bottle and doesn’t have to be measured - if it is for one drink only.

§ 2 An alchemists’ mixed drink only contains one base spirit!

  1. 2.1 A flavored vodka could be used as flavoring - but hasn’t got to be used more then ¼ of the original measure of the basic spirit.

  2. 2.2.1 Liqueurs are allowed to be used. If a base spirit is used, not more then ½ measure of liqueur might be used!

  3. 2.2.2 Liqueurs supposed to use the same basic alcohol as the base spirit, should be based on neutral alcohol, or supposed to made of an aroma-intensive source which is name - determined (like eau-de-vie based liqueurs).

  4. 2.3 Bitters and Cordials are not seen as base spirit and can be used.


§ 3 An alchemists’ mixed drink contains maximum 5 ingredients!

  1. 3.1 All used ingredients are seen as ingredients - including drops, dashes or mists of different products.

  2. 3.2 Only ice, non-sparkling water and garnishes are not seen as ingredient!


§ 4 Only quality products supposed to be taken!

  1. 4.1 Every single ingredient supposed to be chosen carefully; according to:

  2. subjective taste

  3. alcohol & sugar content (the more the better)

  4. organic & natural ingredients (no artificial flavoring and coloring)

  5. authenticy & background



§ 5 Only fresh juices or fresh prepared nectars are allowed to be used for an alchemist drink!

  1. 5.1 Fresh juices / nectars supposed to be non heat-treated products with an expiry of less than 3 days after production.

  2. 5.2 Juices and nectars need to be checked ALWAYS before service - and also during service for their freshness and to avoid spoiled or fermented products in cocktails.


§ 6 Drinks aligned to (or named after) a certain category need to follow respective guidelines:

  1. Served in assigned glassware

  2. Prepared with a great sense of authenticity - based of the key factor of the drink.

  3. Created in the sense of the respective sensation / character.


§ 7 Alchemists’ drinks selection highlighting sustainability, regional ingredients, produce and flavors.

  1. Preferably local & regional spirits, liqueurs & cordials to be used.

  2. Local fruits and other produce supposed to be preferred.

  3. Reusable bottles / packages to be preferred.

  4. Local artisanal distilleries & producers needs to be found,  encouraged and supported.
    Products needs to be improved of the producer with the expertise and help of the artisan alchemist.
